On October 19, 2021, Consul General Huang Ping meets virtuallywith Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet, joined byEducation Counselor Yang Jun and Vice Presidentof Kean Felice Vazquez.


Huang Ping warmly congratulatesLamont O. Repollet on his appointment as the 18th president of theuniversity. He commends the university for setting a good example for China-U.S. educational cooperation by its 10-year successful campus in Wenzhou, China.He highly appreciates the universitys extraordinary efforts to bring international students back to campus. Meanwhile, he expresses concerns about Chinese students in general:in August alone, nearly 30 Chinese students and visiting fellows holding valid visas issued by the U.S. government were repatriated at the entry port, and among them some were interrogated and searched with false assumption; visa applications of some Chinese students were denied or valid visas revoked; over30 Chinese students from the State University of New York at Buffalo were suspended for failing to submit relevant entry information in time; and some Chinese students reported positive result of Covid-19 tests.He also raises concern that the rising sentiment against Asian community may bring threats to Chinese students. He emphasizes that theChinese Consulate General in New York firmly safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese students, and hopes that American universities will take relevant measures toensure their safety.


Huang Ping points outthat this year marks the 50th anniversary of Kissinger's secret visit to China and China-U.S."Ping Pong Diplomacy". The two heads of statespoketwiceover the phone, setting direction and providingencouragingimpetus for bilateral relations at crossroads. He wishes that Kean continues to make more efforts in cooperation with Chinese universities.


PresidentRepollet saysthat Keanalways attaches great importance to pandemic control and campus safety. 93%of the Kean communityhavebeen fully vaccinated, and the campus has the lowest infection rate in New Jersey. This fall, 12 students from Wenzhou-Kean University have arrivedto studyat Kean campus. He highly agrees that education cooperation plays a unique role in people-to-people exchange and in enhancing understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American people. He confirms that the university highly values globalization and diversity, and firmly supports cooperation with China.
