Remarks by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Consulate General in New York on the Wrong Speeches Slandering China-U.S Friendly Exchanges at Sub-National Level

Recently, certain individual and media groundlessly asserted that the Chinese Consulate General in New York exerted influence over the New York State Legislature, and promoted the proposal and review of the relevant resolutions on friendly cooperation between China and the U.S. The relevant speeches are total vicious rumors that attempt to drive a wedge into sub-national cooperation between China and the U.S. We firmly oppose that.

The Chinese Consulate General in New York has always been committed to deepening friendly exchanges and result-oriented cooperation with states in our consular district, promoting the stable development of China-U.S. relations. We are committed to maintaining normal exchanges with all sectors in the consular district in accordance with relevant international law and international practices, and never intervene in the U.S. sub-national internal affairs. The relevant resolutions express the shared aspirations of all walks of life in New York State to develop China-U.S. friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as the strong desire to maintain the stable development of China-U.S. relations.

Over the years, close exchanges are maintained at sub-national level and between the two peoples. The strength to support the friendly cooperation between China and the U.S. never stops growing, which fully illustrates that, with their interests deeply intertwined, the two countries share broad common interests in a wide range of areas. Cooperation between China and the U.S. is desired by two peoples, and such a popular trend cannot be reversed. Those who seek to disrupt bilateral relations are driven by political gains and narrow-minded prejudice. They do not want to see friendly sub-national exchanges between China and the U.S., and attempt to drive a wedge between two peoples and make chilling effect in American society. Failing to realize the nature of mutual benefits of the sub-national cooperation between China and the U.S., they are standing on the wrong side of history and alienating themselves from people in both countries. Their attempts will never get anywhere.
