On August 3, the 2024 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York launched in Corona Park with thousands of local athletes from over 200 teams participating. Consul General Huang Ping attended and spoke at the opening ceremony. Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, Ms. Maisie Ho and other guests also delivered speeches. Representatives of federal and state legislators, and state and municipal government officials also attended.
Huang Ping congratulated on the opening of the dragon boat festival and noted that the dragon boat culture, with a long history and great significance, is an important symbol of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation, with a strong appeal across borders and cultures. As we speak, the Olympic Games is in full swing. It is hoped that all participants will uphold the Olympic spirit of "Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together", enhance unity and mutual learning and further contribute to the development of China-US relations.
The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York has been held annually for over 30 years. Awed by the great teamwork and magnificent skills of the athletes, the audience on the shore never stopped cheering or taking pictures to capture the moments of the brilliant performance. The Chinese Consulate General also set up a cultural booth to interact with the local community and the souvenirs such as fans, nesting panda dolls and dragon dolls distributed to the audience were very widel popular.
