The State of New York and Jiangsu Province established sister province/state relations in 1989. New York City and Beijing (1980), Syracuse and Fuzhou city of Fujian(1991), Rome and Xinyu city of Jiangxi (1993), Mount Vernon and Yangquan city of Shanxi (1995), Westchester and Jingzhou city of Hubei (1998), Rochester and Xianyang city of Shaanxi (2006) are sister cities.

In 2023, New York State’s export of goods to China was US$3.7 billion, up by 15% year-on-year, and import from China was US$18.7 billion. New York State’s export of services of China stood at US$4.6 billion.
