Consul General Zhang Qiyue Meets with Chinese Boxer Zou Shiming

On June 8th, Consul General Zhang Qiyue met with China's two-time Olympic champion Zou Shiming at the Consulate.

Zou is a Chinese professional boxer who has won three gold medals at the 2005, 2007 and 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships, as well as three consecutive Olympic medals: bronze in 2004, gold in 2008 and gold in the 2012, all in the light flyweight division. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Zou won China's 50th gold medal of the tournament by winning the final of the light flyweight event, winning China's first ever gold medal in Olympic boxing. He will make his US professional debut on June 11th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Consul General Zhang commended Zou for his role as a Chinese boxer who has endeavored himself to win lots of important world-class competitions and earned reputations for his motherland. On behalf of Chinese Consulate General in New York, Zhang acknowledged Zou for his contributions by helping promote the culture and sports exchanges between China and US and also wished him a great success in the bout on June 11.
