Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus of Sao Tome and Principe

On March 27, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met in Boao, Hainan Province with Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus of Sao Tome and Principe, who was in China for the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2019.

Li Keqiang said that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Sao Tome and Principe more than two years ago, the two sides have constantly deepened political mutual trust and achieved remarkable results in cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side appreciates that the Sao Tome and Principe side upholds the one-China principle, which serves as the political foundation of the development of bilateral relations. It is in the fundamental interests of both peoples for the two countries to strengthen cooperation. We are ready to work with the Sao Tome and Principe side to push bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new level.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese side stands ready to work with the Sao Tome and Principe side to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation and continue to provide aid within its capacity to support Sao Tome and Principe's pursuit of its own sustainable development, so as to achieve more mutual benefit and win-win results.

Jorge Bom Jesus said that Sao Tome and Principe and China are close like brothers. The resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2016 has injected new vitality into the friendly bilateral relations. The Sao Tome and Principe side firmly supports the one-China policy and is willing to learn from China's development experience. Chinese enterprises are welcomed to invest in Sao Tome and Principe and Sao Tome and Principe hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in fields including fisheries, tourism and infrastructure.
