Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos

On March 27, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met in Boao of Hainan Province with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos, who was in China for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Laos have a particularly close relationship, which is showing a sound momentum of development and has led to fruitful outcomes from practical cooperation. Last year, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping successfully exchanged visits with General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. We are willing to work with the Lao side to intensify high-level exchanges, strengthen experience exchanges in state governance and administration and spare no effort in building a China-Laos community with a shared future with strategic significance.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese side is willing to better dovetail the Belt and Road Initiative with development strategies of the Lao side, hasten the completion of cooperation documents on the China-Laos Economic Corridor, and ensure the construction of the China-Laos railway will be finished on time and with good quality. We encourage Chinese enterprises to take an in-depth part in the economic construction of the Lao side in line with market principle, so as to better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Thongloun Sisoulith said that Laos and China are a community with a shared future sharing weal and woe. General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith is willing to visit China next month and attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation upon invitation. The Lao side is willing to push forward the construction of the economic corridor and the Laos-China railway with the Chinese side to better benefit the two peoples.
