ROME, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping says that China is willing to maintain the good momentum in the development of China-U.S ties.

Xi made the remarks during a meeting Thursday with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in Italy's capital of Rome, where the two attended the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification.

Xi said that Chinese President Hu Jintao made a successful state visit to the United States in January. The visit, Xi said, has brought bilateral ties between the two nations to a new stage, featured by a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect, mutual benefits and win-win results.

China is willing to work together with the U.S. to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and strive to maintain the sound development momentum of China-U.S. ties, Xi said.

The Chinese vice president said China is also ready to further improve its cooperative partnership with the U.S. and to make continuous efforts to push forward the steady development of China-U.S. ties.

He pointed out that China and the U.S. have extensive common interests and bear significant corporate responsibility. Strengthening China-U.S. relations is in line with their interests and will benefit the world, he said.

Xi recalled that Biden said in the 1970s that a rising China was a positive development, which shows the far-sightedness of a statesman.

Since President Barack Obama took office, Biden has been working with him to pursue a positive foreign policy toward China and has contributed much to bilateral communications and cooperation, said Xi, adding that he welcomed Biden to visit China this year.

Biden expressed agreement with Xi's views on U.S.-China relations. He said that the U.S.-China relationship is among the most important bilateral relations for the United States.

The United States views China as an important factor of the world's stable development, Biden said, adding that China's success serves the interests of the United States.

He also said that there are many reasons for China and the United States to realize mutual benefits and a win-win situation.

Biden added that he wishes that he could travel to China soon and welcomed Xi to visit the United States at an appropriate time.
