BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Friday called for more cultural exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan in a bid to promote cross-Strait relations.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks Friday while meeting with the Communist Party of China (CPC) members of Taiwan origin.

Jia praised the long-term, constructive efforts of CPC members of Taiwan origin in promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, encouraging them to further unite compatriots in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas regions.

The CPC members of Taiwan origin were here for a three-day meeting to elect delegates attending the CPC's 18th National Congress to be held in the later half of 2012.
