Consulate General Spokesperson's Remarks:The Latest Cooperation on Fighting Pandemic

In accordance with the important consensus reached between the Chinese and the US heads of state on March 27, the Chinese Consulate General in New York has been strengthening cooperation with the US on fighting COVID-19.

1.Medical Supplies

The Consulate General of China in New York is pleased to announced that, together with the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations,we will donate personal protective equipment (PPE) to New York City, including 25,000 N95 masks, 2,000 protective suits and 75,000 surgical gloves, which are expected to arrive on April 17.

Meanwhile,under the request of NBA and Committee of 100, the China side facilitate the cargo transportation and customs clearance of 1,000,000 surgical masks from China to New York State, overcoming the difficulty of strained transportation capacity between China and the US and others. These masks has arrived in New York on April 15 and will be delivered to Albany soon.

Chinese localities, enterprises and civil groups have also been continuously sending medical supplies to New York State. After facilitating the Kraft Group to send 1 million masks from Shenzhen to Massachusetts on April 2, Tencent donated 1,500,000 KN95 and other masks to the New York State Government on April 13 and will donate 1,200,000 masks to New York-Presbyterian Hospital and other American medical institutions.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China has extended a helping hand to the US through different channels. For New York State alone, we have donated about 6,000,000 masks, 30,000 protective suits, 150,000 goggles, 210,000 surgical gloves and 1,000 ventilators.Regarding to the medical supply to the whole America,Chinese government has facilitated the customs clearance of more than 202 million masks, 25 million protective suits, 2 million goggles, about 230 million surgical gloves,3410 ventilators, 10 thousand medical monitors and almost 1 million infrared thermometers.To save lives as more as possible, more and more medical supplies from China are ready to be sent or on their way to the US.

2.Experiences Sharing

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, health authorities and epidemic experts of China and the US have been in touch on the evolvement of COVID-19 globally as well as bilateral cooperation on control and treatment. On April 10, the Consulate arranged a video conference between Department of Infectious Diseases at Fudan-Huashan Hospital and Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. Professor Zhang Wenhong, the department director, and other Chinese experts and clinicians shared China's experiences in prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 and conducted professional exchanges with US experts.Professor Zhang and other Chinese experts introduced the successful experience of "maximized testing, maximized tracking and maximized hospitalization" in Shanghai and other cities, answered series of questions about the drugs, detection, protection, quarantine and shared China's concrete practices in full details. Experts of Mount Sinai praised that these experiences have great reference value and expressed their aspiration for further communication and cooperation.

In addition to that, Chinese intensive care and respiratory experts from Shanghai General Hospital, who have participated the medical team to Wuhan anti-epidemic front line, will join a Town Hall Meeting arranged by University at Albany–SUNY on April 28.

3.China will be more than ready to provide assistance

We Chinese like to say, "receiving drips of water when in need, and I shall return the kindness with a spring." Reciprocating an act of kindness is our nation's fine tradition. After the COVID-19 outbreak in China, people from all walks of life in many countries, including American companies, institutions, organizations and individuals supported China in this fight. As President Xi Jinping said in the Extraordinary G20 Leaders' Summit on COVID-19, guided by the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China will be more than ready to provide assistance where we can to other countries. We sincerely hope the pandemic will be brought under control at an early date, so that it will cause less damage to American people. The Chinese Consulate General in New York will continue to support and offer help to New Yorkers and all the American people in our consular district to win the battle against this pandemic.
