"The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the profound friendship between Chinese and American people, which serves as the mainstream of our relationship. "Ambassador Huang Ping, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in New York said in his speech at a recent video conference held by Schiller Institute.
The US and Chinese enterprises have been the models to consolidate China-US people-to-people friendship in the pandemic.When China was in deep distress, the US enterprises across various sectors lent a hand to us, for which we are always truly grateful. In return, the Chinese enterprises in the US are now in action to provide assistance.
1.China Construction Bank: Generous donation and great facilitating efforts
On May 12, China Construction Bank(CCB) and its New York Branch donated 500,000 N95 surgical masks and 100,000 surgical gowns worth 2.33 million dollars to Connecticut.
Moreover, CCB facilitated the purchase and shipment of 6 million surgical masks, 500,000 protective masks, 100,000 surgical gowns and 100,000 temporal thermometers worth 28.6 million dollars from China. According to the general manager of CCB New York , CCB mobilized the whole customer resources through its Smart Matchmaking Platform.To ensure Connecticut receive the equipment as soon as possible, CCB also helped coordinate the production capacity, transportation and customs clearance of the equipment.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont called the equipment "the single largest shipment of personal protective equipment(PPE) that Connecticut has received to date in the fight to combat COVID-19" at the handover ceremony. Lamont said that the equipment gave Connecticut the confidence to fight the pandemic and he was so grateful for the Chinese government and its people. He also appreciated the efforts by Amb. Huang Ping ,CCB and Shandong Province,which is Connecticut's sister-state in China and donated 55,000 masks to Connecticut before.
Governor Lamont also held a telephone call with Amb. Huang Ping to express his gratitude. Amb. Huang briefed the great efforts made by relevant Chinese authorities and enterprises.They both agreed that further cooperation between China and the US is key to win the fight against the pandemic.
In addition,CCB New York Branch is planning to donate 100,000 medical masks, 10,000 protective masks and 5,000 temporal thermometers to hospitals, welfare homes and police departments in New York State.
2.Fuyao Glass:Fuyao and Ohio are one family .
On May 1, Heren Charitable Foundation of Fuyao Glass Industry Group, whose subsidiary Fuyao Glass America(FGA) in Ohio is popular for the Oscar winner documentary "American Factory", donated 1,000,000 surgical masks and 30,000 protective goggles to Ohio.
Cao Dewang, chairman of Fuyao Group said that Fuyao has nearly 3000 employees in Ohio and other states. Ohioans are like family to Fuyao. In a release, Fuyao said the foundation worked hard over the past month to source and purchase PPE in China. Fuyao and Ohio are one family. They are greatly appreciative of the strong support the Ohio government and the local communities have provided to FGA."
JobsOhio thanked Heren Foundation for the donation of PPE on twitter and said that Ohioans are grateful for all this.
In addition, Heren Charitable Foundation and Fujian People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries have donated totally 100,000 masks, 20,000 protective suits and 20,000 goggles to New York and Pennsylvania.
Up to May 12, China side have donated about 9,949,200 masks, 311,500 surgical and disposable gloves, 133,700 goggles, 57,300 protective suits, 1000 ventilators and 500,000 test kits. According to incomplete statistics, China has provided the US with over 8.65 billion masks, meaning over 26 masks for each in the US, plus 8591 ventilators, 359 million gloves, 51.2 million protective suits and 8.4 million goggles.
